FAQs

Is lunch provided?

Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently unable to provide lunch. We have several options close to our venue where you can purchase food for yourself. We are continuing to provide tea/coffee, water, and biscuits.

Do I need to bring my own PPE?

To take part in our courses you must wear full-length trousers, safety boots/boots with ankle support, and bring your own face covering to enter the building at the beginning of the day (we can provide additional face coverings if needed throughout the day).

In addition to this, it is recommended that you bring your own work gloves if you are taking part in our Working at Height or Manual Handling courses, but this is optional.

All other equipment such as harnesses, safety glasses etc. will be provided for you.

Are there parking facilities?

Yes, we have plenty of parking options available at our venue.

What will I need to bring with me for my course?

You only need to bring yourself, and the PPE specified above. If you would like to take notes during the course then you may wish to bring your own pen and paper, however, this is optional.

Do I need to complete a full course or a refresher?

Once you have completed a GWO basic safety training course (Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Working at Height, First Aid), your certificate is valid for a period of 24 months. If you have not completed a refresher within those 24 months and your certificate elapses then you will need to complete the full course again.

Currently, there is an extended refresher period of an additional 60 days. If you have been unable to complete your refresher within the standard 24 month period due to reasons related to the Covid-19 pandemic then you may be able to take a refresher course within 60 days of your certificate elapsing. This is down to the discretion of the training provider. If this applies to you, or you have any questions please contact us before booking.

What’s the minimum age requirement?

You have to be 18 years old to attend one of our courses.

Is it possible to fail the course?

Yes, it is possible to fail any of our courses. However, we will do everything we can to ensure that you are able to pass the course and will be open and honest with you about your results.

Can I pay in instalments?

We require payment in full before you attend the course. We may consider instalments on large payments on bookings of multiple people, please contact us and we can discuss this.

What time do the courses start?

Our courses start at 09:00, please aim to arrive 15-20 minutes before this in order to complete registration so that we can start the course promptly.

Will my course finish early?

The end times of the courses vary with the learners on the course. We will take as long as we need to ensure that all learners are comfortable with and understand the material in a satisfactory manner. We will endeavour to finish by 17:00, however, there may be occasions when we finish slightly later.

If the course is not fully booked, then we may be able to complete the course in less time and you will be allowed to leave early.

Is there accommodation nearby?

There is a Premier Inn 5 minutes’ walk from our venue and plenty of additional options in Winchester city centre and close by.

I work offshore if my rotation changes can I move my training?

It is possible to move your training, but this should be done as a last resort. We ask that you give us at least two weeks’ notice if your training needs to be moved. If you are taking a refresher course, your new training date will still need to fall within your normal 24-month validity, unless the change in date is due to reasons related to Covid-19 (please see the above question about full courses and refreshers).

I want to work offshore, what training do I need?

This is difficult to answer, as each employer may require different training. Please consult with your employer regarding their training requirements.

Do I need to have a medical certificate?

Most people will not need a medical certificate. You will receive a link to complete a medical self-certification form before your course starts. This MUST be completed before you attend the course. There are certain scenarios where we may ask you in further detail about any conditions if highlighted on this form, in which case we will contact you before your course date.

I require a bespoke training course for my company, is this something you can provide?

Yes, we are happy to provide bespoke training courses, please contact us for more information about how we can help you.
