Course Overview

The GWO Advanced Rescue - Hub, Spinner, and Inside Blade course is designed to give participants the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform entry-type injured person rescue operations in a WTG, using industry standard rescue equipment, methods and techniques, exceeding those of GWO Working at Height.

Participants will be able to:

  • Safely access the hub, spinner and inside blade of a wind turbine to get to an injured person

  • Perform entry-type casualty rescue operations in a wind turbine generator

  • Correctly use industry standards rescue equipment and methods

  • ​Understand and demonstrate rescue techniques that exceed those of GWO Working at Height

  • You must hold valid GWO BST module Working at Heights, GWO First Aid and GWO Manual Handling certificates to take this course.

Who Is The Course For?

Course Content​

  • Understanding emergency response planning in a wind turbine environment and where applicable within your own organisation

  • Supporting a casualties head and spine during rescue operations, including the use of cervical collars

  • Packaging and transporting casualties using a variety of stretcher types

  • Rigging and set up for raising and lowering operations

  • Practical exercises including rescuing a casualty from:

    • Blade to hub​

    • Hub to ground

    • Hub to nacelle

    • Nacelle to ground

    • Transition piece to vessel

More Information & Pre-Requisites

  • Certificate validity:

    • 24 months

  • Items to bring:

    • Photo ID (e.g passport or driving license)

    • Safety boots or shoes

  • Pre-requisites:

    • Participants must be in a good state of physical fitness (participants will be required to fill in a medical self-declaration)

    • Participants must have a WINDA ID (to obtain a WINDA ID, participants can register here)

    • You must hold valid, in-date GWO BST module Working at Heights, GWO First Aid or Enhanced First Aid and GWO Manual Handling certificates (or Refresher certificates for these courses)

    • If participants are doing the refresher course, they must also hold a GWO Advanced Rescue - Hub certificate that is in date on the day of the course
